Hey friends! Great to have you join me again. It's another beautiful day here in Florida with the temperature in the high 70s and partly cloudy. There's a slight breeze would could be slightly stronger and more frequent but a great day overall.
I'm in Tallahassee, Florida, with Divided We Fail as we join many other groups and demonstrate on our state capital. There are people here from all over the state and everyone had been very friendly. I've handed out a few business cards for the project and talked to a few people about our Teddy Bear Touchdown. So we hope to influence our state politicians and our Governor by discussing the issues about affordable quality health care and financial security for all Floridians. I've heard an entire bus of people are here from Jacksonville, Florida.
I'm also still getting in contact with people from my hometown of Pensacola, Florida, about Divided We Fail and AARP having the Champ Mobile and maybe an information and pledge card table at some of their events over Memorial Day weekend. Turns out I know my contact person. She and I attended the same high school and were friends. So I'm looking forward to the possibility of getting the GLBT community involved with Divided We Fail and getting to see my friends and family while I'm there.
My friend, Dale, is having surgery again today to fix the sutures that he ripped while coughing after his heart bypass surgery. I'm still waiting to hear from Patrick how the surgery went but am sure I will hear something soon. I just hope that Dale is doing ok.
Today is also my friend Sylvia's birthday. Now I won't reveal her age but it is a milestone birthday for her. She lives in Pensacola, Florida, and is Diane's mom. I spoke with her earlier today and wished her a very Happy Birthday. Her family is having a small intimate family party for her on Saturday but unfortunately I couldn't be there due to previous obligations. I sent my contribution to the special surprise that is being made for her so I look forward to hearing how she liked the gift she is having made for her special birthday. So Happy Birthday Sylvia! and many more! Sylvia is the kind of woman that accepts and loves people for who they are... not what she might want them to be. That is something that is found all to rare in today's world.
My right arm is still bothering me and quite swollen around the elbow and forearm area. So I took the day off from working out since we're so busy here on the trip. The hotel also only has cardio equipment... no free weights and no universal type machine. I understand the liability of having a full gym but it's just so convenient for hotels to have a decent gym when you're traveling but I figure if nothing else my legs are getting a great workout. I'll get back to the grind after I get back to Jacksonville this weekend. Next week is a very busy schedule so I'm really going to have to focus and get my workout in as much as possible.
I know that McCain was in Jacksonville today but I'm not sure where his event was being held. Not sure if any of the local members of Divided We Fail made it to his event since a lot of the group are in Tallahassee but hopefully at least one of us did. We try to be a noticeable presence at all the presidential candidate events. Wearing our bright red t-shirt with our slogan definitely makes us stand out.
I also spoke with Alice who just joined our board of directors at the project. I will be speaking at the next meeting of the women's support group that she sponsors. I also need Alice to get me her bio so I can build her board of director's page on this website. I'm looking forward to seeing the women of the Rose again. I always have such a great time when I visit with them. I also need to speak to Angela since I haven't heard back from her since emailing a few days ago. But it may have gone to her spam folder in email like I have happen so many times. With all the spam I get every single day, I'm sure I accidentally delete the occasional email that I should have read. That may have been what happen with the last email I sent her.
I hope that all of you are having a great week so far. Remember to stop and smell the roses! Wishing you health, hope and happiness.
Big bear hug,
