The Rose



Our Dab's Angel for April 2008 is THE ROSE. THE ROSE stands for Talking, Helping and Educating while Raising Oneness of Sister Everywhere. THE ROSE is a union of sisters of all cultures, colors and careers who are affected or infected by HIV/AIDS.

Through neighborhood awareness, they work to prevent and reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Jacksonville area. THE ROSE offers condom negotiation skill classes to various groups in the community such as senior citizen centers, teen clubs and groups, church groups and low income community centers. They take each and every opportunity to share new information with their family, friends and community to expand HIV/AIDS awareness.

Through working with organizations like Dab the AIDS Bear Project, their major mission for 2008 is private confidential testing. This will provide testing to individuals who will not test in a shared enviornment due to the stigma of HIV/AIDS.

THE ROSE


TALKING - THE ROSE meet in a group setting bi-monthly to offer listening ears and encouraging support to one another.

HELPING - THE ROSE are there for each other at all times to provide a non-judgmental atmosphere while informing the members about community resources and information.

EDUCATING - THE ROSE offers clear and intense education on HIV/AIDS by a professional and certified educators. Each of our group leaders are trained facilitators and certified in HIV 104, 500-501 to assure the correct information will be provided.

RAISING - THE ROSE enrolled 14 women at the beginning of organizing on April 12, 2007. They now have 42 members and 25 are very active participants at each meeting. Due to the growing number of women being infected, they are increasing HIV/AIDS awareness among others in the community.

ONENESS - THE ROSE is an organization of women that feel we are one body...when one hurts we all hurt. When one is in need we are there. They promote independence, positive thinking, skills to coping with HIV/AIDS, community involvement and awareness.

SISTERS - THE ROSE is a group comprised of women of all background, nationalities, ethnicities and marital status that are affected or infected by this illness.

EVERYWHERE - THE ROSE is now reach out around the Jacksonville community and hopefully the country for many years to come. They are an effective educational and prevention awareness group who are truly making a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS awareness and survival.

THE ROSE as a group has only started in their wonderful journey is HIV/AIDS activism and advocacy but they're off to a fantastic start. The Project is so proud to see the way they are training and using the voices to help in the war on HIV/AIDS.
