Dab's Angel July 2007
Jasmine
Miss Jasmine is a native of a small village near Ocho Rios, Jamaica and works with the HIV and AIDS population in her country.
To most of us, this may not seem like such a huge deal; but in Jamaica both gays and people with HIV and AIDS are shunned at best and attacked, physically threatened or murdered on a regular basis at worst. So for her to be taking a stand against the threats, intimidations and violence; Jasmine is a rock and we GREATLY ADMIRED HER DETERMINATION, COURAGE AND CONVICTION.
She took us around to meet members of her community that with HIV and AIDS. She showed us the lack of quality health facilities, lack of medications and how in Jamaica it is still a "SHAMEFUL" disease and therefore not a subject for "PUBLIC DISCUSSION".
Jasmine has worked tirelessly helping those already effected and affected by HIV and AIDS and also to educate those not already infected about HIV Prevention and safer sex guidelines in an effort to save the people of her country.
Her hobbies include artwork down in several art mediums, gardening and her children. She also leads a HIV support group in her spare time. Her husband Arthur passed away a few years ago from complications due to AIDS.
FOR THESE REASONS AND MANY MORE, JASMINE IS OUR DAB'S ANGEL FOR JULY 2007.
