It is with great honor, we announce Randy Allgaier as our Dab the AIDS Bear's Angel for November 2010.
Randy Allgaier is a gay man living with HIV and Hepatitis C and he is the Director of the San Francisco HIV Health Services Planning Council. The council determines the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and establishes priorities for services and allocates funds for federal Ryan White programs in San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo counties.
From 1995 - 2000 Randy was the Director of the HIV Advocacy Network in the Public Policy Department at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation where he advocated at the state and federal levels and managed a grassroots program that covered the 20 Congressional districts of Northern California. Randy was one of the first HIV/AIDS advocates in the nation to address HIV/AIDS and Medicare issues and partnered with NAPWA, the Kaiser Family Foundation and Gilead Sciences to bring attention to this issue and educate people living with HIV/AIDS about Medicare reform.
Randy served on the San Francisco HIV Health Services Planning Council from 2002 - 2009 and has co-chaired a number of council committees and served as council co-chair for two terms.
Randy has served on the San Francisco HIV Prevention Planning Council, and currently co-chairs San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s Hepatitis C Task Force. He also sits on the coordinating committee of the Coalition for a National AIDS Strategy and serves on the boards of directors for the CAEAR Coalition and the National Working Positive Coalition and is a member of the National Quality Center’s Consumer Advisory Committee.
Randy holds an A.B. from Cornell University and an M.A. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Art and Sciences.
Randy and his partner of 22 years got married in September 2008 on the occasion of their 20th anniversary.
