River Huston

It is with great honor we announce River Huston as our Dab's Angel for April 2009.
River Huston is an award winning performer, writer and speaker. She has traveled to college campuses through the United States and abroad speaking on issues related to sexuality, self-esteem, alcohol abuse, HIV/AIDS, and overcoming challenges.
She recently gave us a phenomenal show at the Positive Living Conference in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. At times she droves us to tears and others had us bent over in laughter.
River graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Music and Physical Education in 1990. In 1995 she was honored with a Doctorate of Humanities from Albright College.
In 1996 she was named Bucks County Poet Laureate and is the author of three books of poetry. She was awarded the Dorothea Lange/Paul Taylor award for A Positive Life: Portraits Of Women Living With HIV and is the creator of Goddess: A New Guide to Feminine Wisdom.
River is a columnist for POZ magazine and has appeared on numerous national television shows including CNN, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, Showtime, CBS; Up to The Minute and The Montel Williams Show for her work.
She shares her story about living with HIV in her one woman show A Positive Life. Through a personal narrative River talks about her life and challenges. She was diagnosed HIV positive in my last year of college and less than a year later was diagnosed with a chronic bone marrow disease leaving her terminally ill for the next 18 years.
Through it all River wrote 5 books, ran a marathon, wrote, produced, and acted in a one women show, built a successful lecture career, traveled around the world, got married, wrote a monthly column and lived a life that incorporated my values including service, forgiveness and compassion.
River also shares slides from her book, A Positive Life: Portraits of Women Living with HIV.
